How about we take a moment while I read your mind? Let me guess...

You’re afraid to even start creating content because you expect you’ll be all ambitious to begin, start growing a following, begin having eyes watching you, start having your audience expect a certain frequency, and have the pressure load on because you know once you start you’re never supposed to stop.

Then life happens, you get into the weeds, get in your own head, your laptop dies, cat needs to go to the hospital, a client has an “emergency”, or you just run out of ideas. 

And you stop. 

 Then you’re too embarrassed to come crawling back to your audience like “Hi, it’s me again after … erm, 4 months.”

I’ve personally created on all 3 content platforms, blog, podcast and video, and I can tell you …

I would have dropped that ball like it was hot had I gone all guns blaring into audio or video or all 3 at the beginning.

Producing audio and video takes more equipment, time, resources, and honestly, team.

Podcasting and YouTube have VALUE and are genuinely amazing for their own reasons (more on the pros and cons of each platform and when to add another is in the course!) but I can tell you, you’re a lot more likely to succeed starting with the simplest platform first, written format in a blog.

I’ve whipped up and published full blog posts in all kinds of weird situations; on a bus, in an airport, at 2 AM in bed, and while looking like a hot mess without having showered for 3 days.

Ladies, I’m sure you get me on this one.

How comfortable will you feel showing up on video with day 4 hair and no makeup? No bueno? Same. 

You don’t need me to tell you that getting all dolled up takes time. 

I spend a solid 2 hours before filming YouTube videos setting up my equipment, fighting with a microphone and lighting kit, finding AA batteries in my kitchens junk drawer, doing my hair and makeup, then hunting through my closet and the laundry room to pick out 5 clean dresses which aren’t wrinkled.

With podcasting I’ve had guests just not show up to our scheduled time and not be available for another month to talk again. I’ve also had to stop and start recording audio constantly because there’s construction next door and no way to know when they’ll start drilling again.

Producing video and audio is simply more time-intensive and challenging. I’m not saying it’s not worth it, it absolutely is, but it’s harder. 

With a blog you have none of these problems. 

You can write the thing from your phone in a pinch or use my 5-second-emergency-post-hack!

Give yourself the best chance of consistency by starting with the easiest content creation platform out there. 

THEN once you grow, get into your own flow and maybe have a VA on hand, that’s a great time to wade into the more challenging-to-produce content platforms.

A blog is totally doable as a 1-person-show and with my proven strategies, you can be consistent too, no ball dropping included.

Plus, even when you create a podcast and video, you’re still going to want to produce it in written format, and having practice formatting and writing killer blogs will be key.

Why do you still need to write out the content of a video or podcast?

When I send my weekly email with a YouTube video, almost 50% of people STILL click the button to read the content on the blog instead of watching the video on YouTube.

Why? Because baby is sleeping or they’re on a train, or their AirPods died, or their work is a fun-killer and blocked YouTube on the company’s computers.

Not to mention, ranking in Google is kinda the whole point, and while Google is indeed getting pretty savvy these days, it’s still not able to understand a video or podcast like it can a written post.

How often have you seen a podcast episode alone with no show notes rank #1 in the search results?

… Never? Exactly.

Plus a major purpose of content creation is elevating your website’s Domain Authority & Google Rank. And when you just produce content on YouTube and don’t also have it on your site, you’re losing serious Google juice.

So why are we starting with written format, (ahem - blogging) in the course?

It’s your best chance to be consistent because it’s the easiest to produce.

Blog posts alone will rank in Google, a video or podcast without also having the written format too is much less likely to.

Shouldn’t I be creating content on Instagram? And LinkedIn? And Clubhouse?

Killing it on social platforms is fabulous and something we’ll be discussing in the course too, but again, I want you ranking in Google, and that sick Instagram story you did last week is unfortunately not going to come up in the search results. Same goes for the great Clubhouse chat you had last week.

Meaning your new and improved post on a topic can indeed outrank the other articles on the same topic out there!You’re right, content creation has been around for a while so there’s plenty of content already out there. But that doesn’t mean you should just throw in the towel.

Google is always looking to provide searchers with the BEST result that is most helpful to them.

So that means if something has already been written, then it’s time for you to create an even BETTER piece of content on the topic!
